Accelerating AI/ML Signal Processing: Epiq’s New Partnership with DeepSig

Wyatt Taylor

Today, we’re excited to announce a new partnership with DeepSig that will allow us to deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) applications directly onto our software-defined radios (SDRs), making integration easier for our customers.

A history of innovation in SDRs and signal processing

At Epiq, we’ve been innovating small form factor SDRs for the last 14+ years, continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in constrained size, weight, and power (SWaP) applications.

Beyond hardware development, we’ve also spent the last decade becoming industry leaders for 4G and 5G signal processing, especially when that signal processing needs to be hosted on a small, low-power FPGA or CPU. Our Skylight network survey tool provides complete insight into the cellular world and can run on our smallest SDRs (which fit in the palm of your hand).

Our most recently announced SDRs set new strides in enabling signal processing at the edge. Both the  Matchstiq G-Series and Matchstiq X40 integrate an NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ NX CPU/GPU module with the rest of the traditional SDR subsystem of an RF front end, flexible transceiver, and FPGA. This offers the ability to host more advanced software, such as AI & ML applications on low-SWaP SDRs, and to optimize for small form factor dismounted and UxS applications.

Enabling the next generation of RF missions

“Advancing RF and signal processing capability in small form factors is core to Epiq’s strategy. Partnering with DeepSig to accelerate the adoption of AI & ML applications at the RF edge is going to enable the next generation of RF missions.”

— John Orlando, Epiq Solutions CEO & Co-Founder

Epiq and DeepSig’s partnership will accelerate the adoption and deployment of AI & ML-based signal processing for signal detection, classification, direction finding, and communications.

Specifically, with this partnership, Epiq will begin selling both full licenses of OmniSIG (with broad signal detection and classification capabilities) and OmniSIG-DF (Direction Finding), as well as full seats of OmniSIG Studio, to enable end customers to build their own models based on captured RF signals of interest. DeepSig will integrate Skylight natively into OmniSIG, enabling users to detect and identify cellular signals in OmniSIG and then pass the signal to Skylight for full decode and analysis.

Additionally, each Matchstiq G-Series and X40 platform Epiq delivers will now come with a pre-installed demo license of DeepSig’s OmniSIG software application, so customers can easily take a test drive with OmniSIG’s signal detection/classification capabilities.

Each system will be pre-loaded with a detection model to support the real-time classification of LTE and Bluetooth signals received.  No internet connection is needed, and all of this will be available through OmniSIG’s web UI that is served up right from the Matchstiq platform: connect your PC, open up a web browser, and you’ll be observing the power of AI/ML processing on a small form factor SDR in real-time.

Keeping up with the evolving RF landscape

“The combination of OmniSIG and Epiq’s G-series and X40 SDRs is incredibly powerful. Machine learned signal identification and direction finding can now fit in the palm of your hand and be deployed on commercial timescales and volumes for applications like UAS payloads.”

— Tim Newman, DeepSig Vice President, Federal Partnerships

The RF landscape is rapidly evolving, but Epiq’s SDRs, combined with DeepSig’s AI/ML expertise, can help you keep pace—tackling each RF challenge as it comes.
