The defense SDR industry is entering a new phase of low-SWaP modular open architecture development. With VNX+ ratified in February 2026 as part of the VITA 90 standard, system designers now have a new option for building compact, rugged, standards-aligned payloads that bring RF sensing, signal processing, AI/ML acceleration, and mission adaptability closer to the edge.
Epiq Solutions is excited to introduce the VNX+ Development Platform, a complete VITA 90 and SOSA SFF (small form factor) aligned RF development system created in partnership with AntaraTek. The platform brings together a VNX+ chassis, backplane, power supply module, Nvidia Orin NX-based single board computer, and Epiq’s new VNX400 SDR module to help engineering teams begin developing, demonstrating, and integrating VNX+ RF payloads today.
For an industry moving quickly toward modular open architectures, this is more than a new SDR platform. It is a practical starting point for the first wave of VNX+ systems.
New standards can only have an impact when engineering teams can develop and deploy them. The VNX+ Development Platform was created to help bridge that gap. The VNX+ Development Platform includes:
The result is a compact, standards-aligned RF system that helps developers move faster from concept to demonstration.
Since its founding, Epiq has focused on delivering advanced RF capability in low-SWaP, deployable form factors. With the VNX+ Development Platform, Epiq is helping extend that leadership into the newly ratified VITA 90 ecosystem.
The platform conceptually takes the capabilities of an Epiq Matchstiq G40 and enables them as VNX+ modules. While the system is new, its foundations are not: the AntaraTek modules are already in production, and the VNX400 SDR module is based on two NV100 SDRs, which are established in the marketplace and relied upon worldwide. By combining those elements the VNX+ Development Platform is a flexible RF architecture that can enable development for communications, RF survey, direction finding, waveform development, and edge processing.
The VNX+ Development Platform is design to support partner applications that provide signal classification, direction finding, and RF situational awareness capabilities. Specifically Epiq is targeting compatibility with DeepSig OmniSIG, 3dB Labs Sceptre, and the Nvidia Jetson software ecosystem.
For customers developing their own RF application, the VNX+ Development Platform will be supported by Epiq’s libsidekiq radio API and open architecture PDK environment. Applications that have been developed on the Matchstiq G40 and other Epiq SDRs will be able to port to the VNX+ Development Platform with minimal effort.
The ratification of VNX+ in VITA 90 marks an important milestone for low-SWaP modular open architecture systems. But the next milestone is adoption: helping engineers build real payloads, validate mission concepts, and accelerate the development of deployable systems – and that is where Epiq is focused.
With the VNX+ Development Platform, Epiq and AntaraTek are giving the industry a practical, complete, and open development environment for VITA 90 RF payloads. It combines proven Epiq SDR technology, Nvidia edge compute, open FPGA development, mature software control, and partner application compatibility in a compact platform built for the emerging VNX+ ecosystem.
